In order to prevent the oxidation of the positive electrode active material on the steel shell of the battery
and enhance its corrosion resistance, the steel shell of the battery needs to be nickel plated.
There are two methods of nickel plating: pre nickel plating and post nickel plating.
Pre nickel plating refers to the process of first plating nickel on steel, and then processing it into a shell. It involves plating nickel on simple shaped steel, which results in a more uniform coating thickness.
It refers to stamping the steel into a shell first, and then plating the shell with nickel through a roller. The roller nickel plating process is used, and the surface of the coating is prone to scratches and nickel powder peeling, which can cause micro short circuits inside the battery. Therefore, pre nickel plating is more uniform than post nickel plating, resulting in better battery consistency.
